On Friday, the former President of the United States Donald Trump faced a lot of criticism from human rights advocates. The reason behind this criticism was his racist and insulting comments about Palestinians and immigrants taking Black American jobs during Thursday’s debate with President Joe Biden. They also noted that very few parts of the debate touched the Gaza war. This war led to humanitarian crises across the world and also killed many people approximately, 38,000.
On October 7, the conflict between Israel and Hamas started. According to an Israeli report, this conflict took the lives of about 1200, and the abduction of approximately 250 people.
Joe Biden, the current President of the United States, said the only one who wants to continue the war is Hamas. Trump then responded by accusing Biden of having “become like a Palestinian,” a comment that many rights advocates criticized as offensive and a slur. This exchange points out the political divide and sensitive situation of the Israel-Palestine war. Also the discussion does not give any solution that brings peace across the globe.
“Actually, Israel is the one (that wants to keep going), and you should let them go and let them finish the job. He (Biden) doesn’t want to do it. He’s become like a Palestinian but they don’t like him because he’s a very bad Palestinian. He’s a weak one,” Trump said.
Donald Trump used the term Palestinian in a controversial way again and again. During the rally the former President said that Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is Jewish now, before this religion he was Palestinian. According to Trump, He’s become a Palestinian because they have a couple more votes or something.
This remark clearly indicates Trump inflammatory rhetoric and also his carelessness. The aim of this person is to further divide and misinform the public.
One member from the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), named Corey Saylor, strongly opposed both Presidents. He criticized the recent comments of former President Donald Trump and Joe Biden also.
Saylor said Trump’s use of “Palestinian” as an insult during a debate was blatantly racist. He also condemned Biden for supporting Israel’s military actions in Gaza, calling it a callous endorsement of genocide. It’s important to note that Israel denies any allegations of genocide.
Many of Trump are negative. One of such actions include, calling Biden a Palestinian is clearly racist and anti-Arab. Many organizations such as Amnesty International USA’s Paul O’Brien highlights this bigotry. Human rights advocates report a rise in Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian bias, and antisemitism in the US, worsened by the Middle East conflict.
Many people across the globe protest and want to end the Gaza war. They also challenge Washington’s support for the Israeli government.
Furthermore, Trump strongly criticized the Biden immigration policies. While this criticism is only misleading. According to him, Biden did not fulfill his duties and failed to secure the southern US border. Due to this failure, many criminals enter here. However, studies consistently show that immigrants do not commit crimes at a higher rate than native-born Americans.
Trump further argued that immigrants are taking jobs from different communities. It includes Black and Hispanis communities. This assertion is not only untrue but also divisive. After that NAACP rightly pointed out on X that nothing is true in it. Everyone has a chance to get jobs regardless of race.
Trump’s immigration remarks stem from white supremacy, noted Amnesty International’s O’Brien, who finds it disheartening that racist, false narratives about asylum seekers and immigrants persist. Adrianne Shropshire of BlackPAC concurred, urging Biden to vigorously refute these wrong statements.
“That there are specific Black jobs for Black people that immigrants are coming to take. Utter nonsense,” Shropshire said.
Furthermore, in order to appeal black voters, Trump also visited Detroit and Philadelphia. Polls revealed that Joe Biden’s support for black voters is less as compared to Trump.
