It has been more than seven decades since the Jammu and Kashmir conflict. Today Jammu and Kashmir are still under brutal executions, torture, and rape from the Indian side. This effect lessens the ability of Kashmiris to fight for self-determination. For more than 70 violent years, Kashmiris have been adamantly calling for an end to India’s unlawful dominion.
The rapes, tortures, and murders committed against helpless Kashmiris by Indian occupation forces since 1947 have become a case study of unheard-of levels of cruelty. Kashmir Solidarity Day commemorates February 5th to recognize the undeterred will of Kashmiris to free their right to self-determination from Indian oppression in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, the prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), denounced on Friday, Feb 7, 2025, the murders of two young Kashmiris in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) by Indian occupation forces. In recent years, the disputed region has witnessed a rise in false encounters and custodial killings, the Prime Minister said, raising severe anxiety over the rising state terrorism in IIOJK.
Kashmir-India Conflict
Parts of Kashmir are ruled by Indian as well as Pakistani governments and separated by a military boundary termed the Line of Control (LOC).
The line, formally a cease-fire line in 1948, split Kashmir and has since acted as a de facto border despite not being a recognized official international boundary. It also cut the Jehlum Valley Road, the sole route into the Kashmir Valley. This territorial border divided many communities, and it continues to do so to this day, separating family members from one another. Alongside the line, the Army buried landmines that have killed numerous innocent civilians and crippled thousands more. These crippled people in Indian Kashmir are struggling to survive without any compensation.
In response to the blockade, under the leadership of Sheikh Abdul Aziz, 50,000 to 2,50,000 Kashmiri demonstrators tried to break the Line of Control to Muzaffarabad.
After stopping the protest at Uri, Indian parliament and police troops killed fifteen people and also injured hundreds more. This incident happened on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Near Sangrama Chowk in Baramulla, IIOJK, a truck driver named Waseem Ahmed Mir of Kashmir was shot by Indian forces; after that, he was killed in the attack.
Another young person, Makhan Din, was tortured to death in detention on Thursday, February 6, 2025, after his arrest in the Jammu region under the pretext of collaboration with pro-freedom activists.
AJK PM’s allegations on India
The prime minister of AJK urged the world community to take swift action and bring to effective notice the widespread state-sponsored terrorism by Indian forces in the region.
Prime Minister Haq condemned the violence and bloodshed that continued in the unstable region. He brought attention to grave crimes committed by Indian occupation forces, including the “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” of Kashmiri residents.
The prime minister appealed to the UN and all other international organizations to intervene immediately, end the brutal killing of defenseless Kashmiris, and discuss this very grave situation at every international forum. He charged that India had established an apartheid state and set new standards for cruelty and savagery in the occupied region. The AJK PM expressed concern over India’s plan to alter the demographics of Jammu and Kashmir by issuing fictitious residence permits to out-of-state residents and former service members. He argued that this move violated UN Security Council resolutions and international laws, with the intent of transforming the Muslim majority into a minority.
Prime Minister Haq paid tribute to the determined people of Kashmir for their sacrifice of their people to get freedom. He also mentioned that Kashmiris will not stop their fight with Indians until they achieve the goal of self-determination.
India’s counter-narrative: Blaming Pakistan for Kashmir violence
The Indian government is continuously rejecting the blame for terrorism in Kashmir. New Delhi passed a statement for blame on Pakistan for its militant organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), which are involved in the violence in Kashmir. Border security controls terrorist attacks from the other side of the border. The rejection of Article 370 was just propaganda for the contribution of Kashmir to the Indian state and to blame Pakistan for human rights abuses.
