Washington Centre Condemns the Deployment of Colombian Mercenaries in Sudan

The Washington Centre strongly condemns the alarming reports of Colombian mercenaries being deployed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemeti,” in Sudan. This revelation highlights a deeply troubling pattern of external interference that exacerbates Sudan’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Reports indicate that around 300 Colombian mercenaries have been stationed in Sudan, with allegations of coercion and human trafficking involved in their recruitment. These individuals are reportedly fighting in Darfur, where the RSF has been implicated in egregious human rights abuses, including mass killings and displacements.

The Washington Centre denounces any actions that intensify the conflict in Sudan, which has already claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced over 11 million people since April 2023. The involvement of foreign mercenaries not only deepens the suffering of the Sudanese people but also undermines efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

We call on the international community to investigate these allegations thoroughly and hold accountable any entities or individuals responsible for fueling this conflict. The exploitation of retired Colombian soldiers under false pretenses further highlights the need for stricter regulations against the recruitment and deployment of mercenaries.

The Washington Centre reaffirms its commitment to promoting peace, justice, and human dignity worldwide. We urge all nations to prioritize diplomatic solutions and humanitarian assistance to address the crisis in Sudan.
