WCHR Calls on ICC to Release Warrant Against UAE and KSA Leaders for War Crimes in Yemen

The Washington Center for Human Rights is deeply concerned about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the role played by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia (KSA) in the conflict. We urge the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take action and release a warrant against the leaders of UAE and KSA for their involvement in committing war crimes in Yemen.

The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing since 2014, with the intervention of UAE and KSA in 2015. The intervention was intended to support the Yemeni government in fighting against Houthi rebels. However, the conflict has resulted in catastrophic humanitarian consequences, with an estimated 233,000 people killed and 3.3 million internally displaced. Furthermore, there are serious concerns about the war crimes committed by UAE and KSA in the conflict.

Both countries have been accused of indiscriminate bombings of civilian targets, including schools, hospitals, and residential areas. There have also been reports of enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, torture, and sexual violence against civilians by UAE and KSA forces. These actions are clear violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, and those responsible must be held accountable.

The Washington Center for Human Rights urges the ICC to release a warrant against the leaders of UAE and KSA for their role in committing war crimes in Yemen. The ICC has the mandate to investigate and prosecute individuals responsible for the most serious crimes under international law, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

It is essential that the ICC takes action in this case, as the international community has failed to address the crisis in Yemen adequately. The UN has called the conflict the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with millions of Yemenis facing food insecurity, lack of access to clean water, and disease outbreaks. The situation has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put even more pressure on an already fragile healthcare system.

The release of a warrant against the leaders of UAE and KSA would send a clear message that no one is above the law and that those who commit war crimes will be held accountable for their actions. It would also provide some measure of justice for the victims of the conflict and their families, who have suffered immensely as a result of the actions of UAE and KSA forces.

In addition to the release of a warrant, it is essential that the international community takes concrete steps to address the crisis in Yemen. This includes providing humanitarian aid and working to find a peaceful solution to the conflict. The conflict cannot be resolved through military means, and it is essential that all parties come together to find a political solution that addresses the root causes of the conflict.

The Washington Center for Human Rights calls on all governments to support the ICC’s efforts to hold those responsible for war crimes in Yemen accountable. We also call on governments to provide humanitarian aid to Yemen and to work towards finding a peaceful solution to the conflict.

In conclusion, the Washington Center for Human Rights urges the ICC to release a warrant against the leaders of UAE and KSA for their role in committing war crimes in Yemen. The ongoing conflict in Yemen has resulted in catastrophic humanitarian consequences, and those responsible for war crimes must be held accountable. We call on all governments to support the ICC’s efforts to address the crisis in Yemen and to take concrete steps towards finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. The international community must act now to prevent further suffering and provide justice for the victims of this conflict.
