WCHR’S STATEMENT ON RUSSIA’S MILITARY INVASION OF UKRAINE

The Washington Center for Human Rights firmly condemns Russia’s premeditated and unprovoked military invasion into Ukraine.
We strongly condemn Russian violence in Ukraine, as well as Russia’s violation of Ukrainian sovereignty. Many intelligence officers have been predicting this scenario for months, and it is now unfolding in real time.

While Russia has a history of aggression in Ukraine, which should have been dealt with diplomatically months ago, this has now become an urgent problem that world leaders must address. Although it is too late to stop the invasion, the response of the globe in the next 24 hours is vital.

The US and the rest of the world must hold the Russian government accountable for their actions as soon as possible. History is ought to repeat itself if we as a global civilization do not acknowledge the past. With a crisis burning in Ukraine, Russia’s determination to recreate a problematic past, and no serious consequences for Russia insight, history is bound to repeat again.

The rest of the world is watching, and we must sit down with Russia and take diplomatic steps to establish a path to peace. The international reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will set precedents and limits for future great power foreign policy initiatives.
